Turning over a NEW LEAF.
Hey all:

I now live on a nice little property that is blessed with it's own spring that we all drink from.
As well, we have a little water marsh made from the grey water so I am deciding it is time to tone down the acid dyeing thing and switch to non-toxic natural dyeing using the alum mordant and cream of tartar.
Hopefully I still get the crazy and wildness that I love from my acid dyes, but I know it might mean going a step or two down on the "pop" scale for colors, but it is just time to go green.

First yarn from my alpaca loot!

Raspberry Kisses:

Natural black baby alpaca and candy pink handyed Romney locks
Wrapped in vintage sparkle threads
Spun super bulky thick and thin

And some natural dyeing with artichoke leaves and acorns (for the tannins/mordant):
Created a nice gold ochre.

LOL!

I actually did eat the artichokes after I made the dye bath and then added the leaves after I ate the tips and simmered with the acorns....

Def. crossing the food/fiber line a bit... :P

congratulations on your new place! it sounds wonderful. i look forward to the day we move the barn and once again use our spring for drinking water. last year we had to get a well dug, which is still amazing water, but it's not as...ALIVE as the spring!
re: your last comment...i missed you, too! i have been rather absent from the internet, lately. too much to catch up on in my immediate surroundings, so it is hard to keep up with blogging and everyone else...
i didn't think summer would be busy for yarn, and that i would have time to get ready for fall shows...but this market every weekend is hard to keep up with. not that i'm selling a ton, but there are some custom orders and what-not that make it difficult to build up an inventory for later in the year.
okay, i'm clogging your comments, but i can't wait to see how the fiber turned out from that dyepot. yum!

Aw she is alive!
I am so glad you are busy at the market, you are an inspiration, really.
The artichoke dyebath didn't stick b/c I didn't mordant enough so I am going to have another go at it since I got more alum today.
WHoopiE!
